October/November 1998 News

WSS sent several wonderful horses to the World Champion Morgan Horse Show in Oklahoma City, and brought home a number of awards. Erin Borden and Wintergreen Zinfandel turned in their best performances ever.  They won a hunter class, placed in the other two, and came home with Reserve World Champion Amateur Hunter.   They also did a fantastic job in jumpers, winning several seconds, enough to win Reserve World Champion Jumper.  Susan Garmier and Wintergreen Fortune won World Champion Third Level Dressage Horse, World Champion Jumper (beating her sibling Zinfandel by only one point), and Reserve World Champion Hunter (missing the World title by one point).  Nathan Lawrence and Taproot Highlander had a wonderful start, winning the Reserve World Champion Dressage Seat Medal and scoring high in the first three dressage tests.  Unfortunately, Highlander came down with a 104 degree fever and was forced to scratch his remaining classes.  Highlander recovered for the trip home and is fine.  Linda Walsh and Triton Omega went well in the Open Gelding Hunter Pleasure, and Michelle Morrison brought home a ribbon with Omega in the Youth Pleasure Class.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the show a success, including Larry Haas, Bob Meckley, and John Lawrence; to Nathan Lawrence for his support; and to Susan Garmier for her help and advice.
